Forward deployed engineers for healthcare

Industries / Healthcare

Forward deployed engineers for healthcare work inside your team to get one clinical or operational system live. They build around patient data from the start. You tell us who you need, and we send people who fit.

  • No deposit to get started
  • Every requirement read by us
  • A best-fit shortlist, not a pile of CVs
  • One agreement, one invoice

Why healthcare needs embedded engineers

The model is rarely the hard part the hospital is

Most healthcare AI projects stall between a working demo and a clinician who uses it. The gap is integration work. FHIR feeds that do not match the spec. Single sign-on into the EHR. Audit logs the privacy office accepts. A workflow that fits a long shift.

A forward deployed engineer sits in that gap. They talk to the nurse manager and the security officer in the same week. They write the integration code themselves. They stay until the system runs in production with real patients behind it.

Tell us the role and the hours. We send you a shortlist of people who fit.

What FDEs fix

Problems a healthcare FDE takes on

  • EHR integration that holds up Reading and writing through FHIR APIs, older interface engines or vendor marketplaces. Mapping local codes. Handling the edge cases that only show up with production data.
  • Clinical documentation and summaries Ambient note drafts, discharge summaries and chart review tools. A clinician reviews every draft, and the record shows what the model wrote and what a person signed.
  • Revenue cycle and prior authorisation Pulling the right clinical evidence into payer submissions and routing denials. Cutting the manual copy and paste between portals that uses up staff time.
  • PHI access, logging and de-identification Least-privilege access to protected data and audit trails your privacy office can read. De-identified or synthetic datasets, so most development happens away from live PHI.

How you hire forward deployed engineers for healthcare

  1. 01

    Send your requirement

Tell us the system, the clinical or business owner who signs it off, and the patient data it will touch. Say if a business associate agreement may be needed. It is free, with no deposit.

  2. 02

    We read it ourselves

We read every requirement ourselves. If something is unclear, we ask. Then we look through the senior people who have applied to us, and our own contacts, for people who fit.

  3. 03

    You get a shortlist

Each person on it comes with a CV and a short note on why they fit your requirement.

  4. 04

    You choose who starts

Talk to whoever you like and choose. You do not have to hire anyone. You pay only when someone starts, on one agreement and one invoice with us.

Healthcare rules to plan around

These shape the build from the start. Your compliance and legal teams make the final calls. The engineer makes sure the system gives them what they need.

RuleWhat it means for the build
HIPAA Security RuleElectronic protected health information needs administrative, physical and technical safeguards. In practice that means access control, audit logs, encryption and a risk analysis that covers the new system.
Business associatesA vendor that creates, receives, maintains or transmits PHI for you is a business associate. Model providers and hosting go through the same review as any other vendor.
ONC decision support rulesAn ONC final rule revised the certification criteria for decision support tools, to make algorithms more transparent. If you build on certified EHR modules, check what that means for your feature.
Clinical reviewAnything that drafts clinical content keeps a clinician in the loop and records who approved what. Design this in from the start, not as a disclaimer.

Hiring in-house vs a forward deployed engineer

Permanent healthcare hire

  • Right for platform work that will run for a long time
  • Finding engineers with EHR integration experience is slow
  • Credentialing and security review take time either way
  • You carry the role after the project ends

Forward deployed engineer

  • Focused on one system and a clear definition of live
  • Chosen by you, from a shortlist that fits your requirement
  • Writes handover docs so your team can run it after
  • You pay our fee only when they start

FAQ

Questions people ask

Will the engineer work with real patient data?

Only where the work needs it and your privacy office approves it. Most development can run on de-identified or synthetic data. Access to live PHI can be limited to testing and deployment, under your normal controls.

Is a business associate agreement needed?

Say in your requirement if you think one is. It depends on what the engineer will access and how you set up vendor access. Everything is agreed in writing before anything starts.

Can the engineer work with our EHR vendor?

Yes. Working through vendor APIs, app marketplaces, interface engines and support queues is a normal part of the job. Name your vendor in your requirement, and we look for people who have worked with it or something close.

We are a health tech startup, not a hospital. Does this still fit?

Yes. Startups selling into health systems often need someone who can sit with a customer's IT team, get the integration live and bring what they learn back to the product. That is the forward deployed role in its original form.
