A forward deployed engineer, or FDE, works inside a customer's team until the software is live. That is hard to do without ever visiting. So the remote FDE postings we read all pair remote work with travel.
Glean asks for travel on its remote founding FDE role. Vannevar Labs calls its cleared FDE role fully remote, with travel.
GitLab is the clearest fully remote employer on the list. Its posting says all of its roles are remote, with some location rules. ElevenLabs says its US FDE role can be done from anywhere in the United States.

- Travel is part of the job Glean and Vannevar Labs both ask for travel on their remote FDE roles. Read the travel line before the word remote.
- Remote, but within a country Most remote postings name a country or region. GitLab and Glean say US, Runpod says EMEA, and Cresta runs separate US, UK, Canada and Australia listings.
- Clearance can still apply Vannevar Labs lists its remote FDE role as TS/SCI clearance required. Tines posts a remote FDE role for public sector work.

How much travel do remote FDE roles ask for?
It varies. Glean and Vannevar Labs both state travel on their remote roles. Check each posting, since it changes by team.
Can I apply from outside the United States?
Some remote roles are open elsewhere. Runpod posts a remote EMEA role, and Cresta has separate remote listings for the UK, Canada and Australia.
