Forward deployed engineer jobs

Roles on company careers sites

Forward deployed engineer jobs are posted on each company's own careers site. Below are roles we found there, each linked to the company's own posting. These jobs belong to the companies named. We do not post them and we do not hire for them.

Where forward deployed engineer jobs get posted

Companies post these roles on their own careers sites. Many of those sites run on a hiring system, so the link opens there. OpenAI uses Ashby, Anthropic uses Greenhouse and Palantir uses Lever. The company's own careers page is always the safest place to apply, because reposts on other sites can be out of date.

The title varies. Look for forward deployed engineer, forward deployed software engineer, deployment strategist and "software engineer, forward deployed". The work is close enough that you should search for all of them.

Each link opens the company's own posting

Forward deployed engineer roles on company careers sites

We opened every posting on the company's own site before listing it. Companies close posts without notice, so if a link no longer works the role has likely been filled. Check that company's careers site for current roles.

Remote forward deployed engineer jobs

Fully remote roles are rare. In the list above, the remote ones are at Databricks, Glean, Figma and ElevenLabs. Use the Remote filter to see them.

The reason is the job itself. A forward deployed engineer works inside a customer's team, so the posts ask for time on site. OpenAI's post is hybrid with regular travel. Anthropic's and Palantir's posts list travel too. Even Glean's remote role lists travel. Remote here usually means you do not commute to an office, not that you never leave home.

Entry-level forward deployed engineer jobs

Few exist. The entry-level roles in the list are both at Palantir: a forward deployed software engineer new graduate role and an internship in New York. Palantir also runs a students and early talent programme, which makes it the main way into the field straight from university.

Most other companies ask for experience, because a forward deployed engineer works with a customer from the first day. If you are early in your career, the usual routes in are a Palantir graduate or intern role, or time as a software engineer at a startup where you talked to customers. Our roadmap sets out the skills to build first.

How we chose these links

We only list a role after opening the posting on the company's own careers site or hiring system. We list the title exactly as the company writes it, so deployment strategist and "software engineer, forward deployed" sit next to forward deployed engineer. We do not show pay here. For posted pay bands with their sources, see the salary page.

FAQ

Forward deployed engineer jobs: questions

Where can I find forward deployed engineer jobs?

On each company's own careers site. Many of these run on hiring systems such as Ashby, Greenhouse and Lever. Every role on this page links straight to the company's own posting.

Do you post these jobs?

No. Each role belongs to the company named, and you apply on its own site. We do not post these jobs, we do not hire for them and we take no part in those applications.

Are there remote forward deployed engineer jobs?

A few. Most roles are hybrid or on site, because the job is working inside a customer's team. Even remote roles usually expect travel to customer sites.

Can I get a forward deployed engineer job as a new graduate?

It is hard but possible. Palantir runs new graduate and internship versions of its forward deployed software engineer role. Most other companies ask for several years of experience.

Is a forward deployed software engineer the same job?

Mostly. Palantir uses forward deployed software engineer as its main title. OpenAI uses both titles for slightly different roles. Other companies use deployment strategist, or software engineer, forward deployed.

We are hiring a forward deployed engineer. Can you help?

Yes. Send your requirement. We read it ourselves and send a shortlist: each person's CV and a short note on why they fit. You pay only when someone starts.
