The region

A region with deep roots in computing

Western companies often call hiring here nearshore hiring. The region also has its own long history in computing. Bulgaria's early computer building earned it the nickname "Silicon Valley of the Eastern Bloc".

Several of these countries also work together as a bloc through the Visegrád Group. Each country page below covers its cities, its universities and the local words for fractional and interim work.

FAQ

Eastern Europe questions

What does CEE mean on this site?

Central and Eastern Europe. We use it as most hiring managers do, as a short name for the countries above. A company in Berlin, London or Austin can hire someone in any of them for part of the week.

Is interim management the same as fractional work?

Not quite. Interim management usually means a leader who covers a role full time for a set period. Fractional means a senior person who works for you part of the week, on an ongoing basis. We list both, and the interim executive page covers interim work.

Who pays the fee?

The hiring company pays, and only when someone starts. Applying with your CV is free.
